CoPIRG Gets Results
CoPIRG Student Chapters, CU Boulder accomplishments ’06-‘07
Fall ’06:
- Registered 2562 students to vote; increased voter turnout by an overall 239%, with a 449% increase in one precinct!
- Sent four students to the SET Conference, and one to the national Hunger and Homelessness conference.
- CCC held three educational events on campus this semester, in
preparation for a wind power program students will be able to opt into.
- Have raised nearly $300 for UNICEF and for the local day homeless
shelter, the Carriage House, by involving more than 140 CU students
during Halloween and the National Hunger Week.
- Held a week of Prayer and Action for Darfur in conjunction with
others across the nation: spoke in at least ten classrooms about the
genocide in the Sudan, showed a documentary on campus, led a rally to
raise awareness, tabled for five days, and facilitated a speaker from
Darfur.
Spring ‘07:
- CCC helped convince Chancellor Bud Peterson to sign onto the
President's Climate Commitment by gathering over 700 student signatures
in support, worked with the E Center to sign up student for wind power
and engaged 100s of students to ask the Governor be a leader on global
warming. Also, received an honor from MTV's "Break the Addiction"
challenge for our work on campus to combat GW.
- Hunger and Homelessness campaign will focus on specific
demographics both locally and internationally, facilitating students
taking direct action to alleviate problems of hunger and homelessness
that children and women continue to face.
- The Higher Ed campaign works with the student government to
advocate for the reduction of student debt and encouraged students to
post their stories of student debt on our online "Student Debt
Yearbook."
